Fighting the Good Fight: Embracing Big Faith in Every Season

Mike Doss Season 6 Episode 23

Send us a text

What does it truly mean to finish what we start in our spiritual journey? Drawing from the powerful testimony of the Apostle Paul in 2 Timothy 4:7, this episode explores the transformative power of developing discipline in our faith walk.

The journey begins with understanding what it means to fight the good fight. Rather than merely starting our spiritual race, we must cultivate the determination to complete it with excellence. This requires what the host calls "big faith" – a faith that doesn't just move mountains but completely transforms our circumstances. Through powerful examples from Matthew 8, we see how big faith doesn't merely open doors but takes them off their hinges, bringing not just healing but complete restoration.

At the heart of this message lies a profound insight into why Paul emphasized remaining faithful. When we make promises to God, as referenced in Psalms 116:14, we commit to standing firm despite opposition. This spiritual discipline involves setting goals for our relationship with Christ and fighting against everything that threatens to derail our commitment.

Perhaps most powerfully, the episode reveals how God's presence and the enemy's influence cannot occupy the same space in our lives. When we fully embrace the Spirit of God, there's no room for destructive influences that limit our potential. God's grace, mercy, love, and power take up significant space—crowding out depression, confusion, and oppression.

Whether you're struggling with consistency in your faith journey or seeking to break free from limitations in your spiritual life, this message provides practical insights on putting a "final word" on situations that have held you captive. Discover how to close doors to the enemy's influence while opening yourself completely to God's transformative work.

Ready to develop the discipline needed to finish strong in your faith? Listen now and learn how to stand firm against the strategies of the devil by being anchored in God's mighty power.

I want to encourage everyone that, whatever method you use to read the word of God, that when I drop a scripture in your spirit, grab the word of God, turn to it or bring it up on your phone or your tablet or whatever device you use, and read it for yourself. Speaker 1:

Psalms 116, verses 12 through 14 in the New Living Translation what can I offer the Lord? What can I offer him? He's too good, he's too great, he's too awesome. The psalmist said what can I offer the Lord For all he has done for me? Here comes a key fact. You have to know that it was God. I will lift up the cup of salvation. I will lift it up because God has freed me. I will lift it up because God has delivered me. I will lift it up because God has changed me. If you have a testimony and God has really come into your life, you will lift up the cup of salvation and praise the Lord's name for saving me. Oh my God, I will keep my promises to the Lord.

Speaker 1:

Anybody ever promised the Lord something? You remember that night he came down and saved you. You remember that day that he came and touched your heart. You remember when you prayed and you wanted him to heal somebody in your family, and he did it. Come on somebody Wanting him to heal somebody in your family, and he did it. Come on somebody. And then you promised him something. I will keep my promises to the Lord. Yeah, you remember when you was in that jail cell and you said, god, if you get me out of this one, I'll serve you. I will keep my promises to the Lord In the presence of all his people.

Speaker 1:

There's something powerful about that. There's something powerful about keeping your word to God, because God always keeps his word to us. Oh my God, there's something powerful about that. Preach PD. I just might, if that hits your spirit, give Jehovah, god, a double hallelujah. May the spirit of the living God fall afresh on us. Everyone, under the sound of my voice. Watch this. Allow the presence of God to be welcome in your heart and in your mind. Did you hear what I just said? Allow the presence of God to be welcome in your heart and in your mind. It hit different when you prepare a place for God's word to work. It hit different when you prepare a place for God's spirit to dwell. Man, I, I'm telling you, it hits different when the word of God comes upon you, when you have prepared yourself to receive it. Oh my God, all right, let's get ready. Y'all, let's get ready.

Speaker 1:

We spoke on a couple of weeks ago developing a discipline to finish. Second timothy 4 7 was the springboard to that thought. As we heard the apostle paul say in verse 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, oh my god, and I have remained faithful. Come on somebody Developing a discipline to finish. Paul said I have finished the race. I didn't just start it, I didn't just run a little bit, but I finished the race, with the ups and downs, with the trials and tribulations, with the hurt, with the pain, with the backstabbing, with the talking about me behind my back, the backbiting, everything that came against me. Paul said I fought the good fight. When things came to me, I didn't just tuck and run, I fought them. Come on, somebody of God, move on you this morning and give you the strength to make up your mind, because it takesa made-up mind to run this race with God. It takes a made-up mind to fight against the things that's going to come against you. It takes a made-up mind to stand on business, and not just any type of business, but God business. It takes a made-up mind because Paul said I remain faithful. Paul had made up his mind, no matter what came against him. Remember that he was gonna finish what he started for God. Let me set the table and bring a full course meal. 2nd Timothy 4 7.

Speaker 1:

I read this scripture a dozen times, but the spirit of God showed me a lesson I never seen to now. The text says that Paul fought for good fight. People of God, hear me, we should have some fight in us, or let me say it like this we should learn to walk in big faith, because that's what it's going to take to finish. Now we heard about mustard seed faith and we know that mustard seed faith can move a mountain of problems out of our way. Matthew 17, 20. But big faith, somebody say. Big faith. Big faith can turn despair into hope. Big faith can turn discouragement into courage. Big faith don't just open doors, it takes doors off the hinges. Big faith will not only heal you, but big faith will heal you and restore you.

Speaker 1:

Remember in Matthew, chapter 8, the man with leprosy in verse 1, anybody remember that when it says large crowds follow Jesus? As he came down the mountainside, suddenly a man with leprosy approached him and knelt before him. Lord, the man said, if you are willing, he know God could do it. But he said, lord, I hate to disturb you, but if you are willing you can heal me. And not only heal me, but he said, you can make me clean. Oh, my God, big faith, I need somebody to walk with me in big faith. Watch this Remember. Keep on reading Matthew chapter eight. Go down just a little bit. Go down just a little bit.

Speaker 1:

Look at verse five, where it says when Jesus returned to Capernaum, a Roman officer came and pleaded with him Lord, my young servant lies in bed paralyzed in a terrible pain. Jesus said I will come and heal him. But the officer said oh my God, somebody say big faith. The officer said I am not worthy to have you come to my home. Just say the word from where you are and my servant will be healed. I know this because I am under the authority of my superior officers. I have authority over my soldiers. I only need to say go, and they go, or come and they come. And if I say to my slaves, do this, they do it. When Jesus heard this, what did he hear? He heard big faith. Remember the man said Jesus, I know you don't even have to come to my home, you can stand right there and heal my servant.

Speaker 1:

Verse 10,. When Jesus heard this, he was what? He was amazed, turning to those who were following him and said I tell you the truth, I haven't seen faith like this in all Israel. Oh my god, can I get somebody in to walk in big faith? I know it ain't been working, but when you put your hand in God hand, when you put your trust in God and you start walking in big faith, things that wasn't working, baby, they bout to start working, walking in big faith. Things that wasn't working, baby, they about to start working. Somebody say big faith. Since we're talking about big faith, let's keep on going.

Speaker 1:

We still, in Matthew, chapter eight, go down to verse 14, where it says when Jesus arrived at Peter's house oh my God. Preach PD. I am preaching when Jesus arrived at Peter's house. We talking about big faith. Peter's mother-in-law was sick in bed with high fever, but when Jesus touched her hand, jesus touched her hand, but he really touched her. Big faith. When you want God to work in your life, you can't just put out your hand. You got to have a hand of faith. Amen, that God can grab a hold of. Oh my God. When Jesus arrived at Peter's house, peter's mother was sick in bed with high fever, but when Jesus touched her, the fever left her. She got up, watch this and prepared a meal. Oh my God, not only did Jesus heal her, but he restored her. The Bible said that the woman got up and cooked a meal. Oh my God, not only did Jesus heal her, but he restored her. The Bible said that the woman got up and cooked a meal. That's big faith.

Speaker 1:

Hebrews 11, 6 in the NLT says this and it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those that sincerely seek him. Seek him with big faith and watch the big presence of God move in your life. I know I went off topic a little bit. I know I went up on the rough side of the mountain. I went up on the rough side of the mountain, but let me come on back down to the thought.

Speaker 1:

The lesson the spirit of God showed me in this text is from why Paul wrote this part and why did he want us to know this. Second Timothy 4, 7 says this that he remained faithful. Now, why did Paul put this into the scriptures? Why did Paul want us to know that he remained faithful? Let me share what I believe to be the lesson we can get from this text. I believe Paul first made up his mind to follow Jesus. I believe that he made up his mind to enter into a relationship with God. Then I believe that Paul did something we all need to do.

Speaker 1:

Paul set a goal to accomplish along the way. I believe that's why he said I have fought the good fight. Why did he say I fought the good fight Because he had set a goal and some things were coming against him, but he remembered the goal he had set. He remembered the promise that he had made to God, the same promise we all have to make. Check out Matthew 16, 24 in the New Living Translation, and it says this Jesus said to his disciples if any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross and follow me. Paul remembered the promise. The promise was he had to deny himself and be willing to do it God's way. I believe Paul was fighting against everything that came against the goal he had set for the Lord. Spin the block. Remember Psalms 116, 14. I will keep my promises to the Lord in the presence of all his people. I believe Paul penned this. He wrote this because he wanted to let everyone know that he had remained faithful and, and me and you can do it too.

Speaker 1:

Paul was a student of the word, so somewhere along the journey he had to read this Psalms. I believe it was in his spirit and it gave him the strength to stand on business, god business. I believe he was putting it in the atmosphere for every devil, for every demon, for every hater, for every enemy, for every doubter that he encountered along the journey that tried to come between him and the finish that tried to come between him and his relationship with God. Can I encourage somebody this morning to first make up your mind, then, second, set a goal for life, especially life in Christ, and fight for it if you have to. But watch this Remain faithful. A valuable lesson. You got let down. Watch this Don't go back to drinking. Remain faithful to your change, he or she trying to get back in your life. Shut them down. Take fornication, take adultery off the table and remain faithful. Do it God's way.

Speaker 1:

I don't know about you, but I want to be like Paul at the end of the race, at the end of the fight. I want to be able to look up to God and say I have remained faithful. I want to be able to look up at all my haters and say I have remained faithful. I want to be able to stand up in the presence of God and say I have remained faithful. No matter what came against me, I remained faithful. I had to cry sometimes, but I remained faithful. I got tempted sometimes, but I remained faithful. I got let down sometimes, but I remained faithful. I never gave up on God. Come on somebody. It's a blessing to be able to say I remain faithful, you can stand on the word of God.

Speaker 1:

God's word is still relevant. God's word still has power. It's still some real preachers out here. It's still some real teachers out here. It's still some real children of God out here. It's still some people that won't waver, that won't give in, that won't give up, that'll stand on the rock, that'll stand on God's word, that'll preach God's word, that'll live God's word, that ain't just doing it for money, just ain't doing it for the hype, but doing it because the spirit of God has entered our life, gave us a second wind and we thank God for grace and mercy. We look back over how we used to be, what we used to be, what we used to do, and we thank God from the bottom of our heart. And we get on these microphones, we get on YouTube, we get on podcasts, we get on anything we can. We stand on three quarters and we preach and teach the word of God with sincerity and truth. God still has some real soldiers on the battlefield. Spirit of the living God fall afresh on us today.

Speaker 1:

We talked about, we recapped, about developing a discipline. To finish, we talked about a lesson that we learned from the apostle Paul a man to set a goal and remain faithful to it. Then we talked about last week, a final word, putting a final word on life, putting a final word on our feelings, putting a final word on our emotions, putting a final word on the words that we speak and stand on them. I want to exhaust this thought.

Speaker 1:

Ephesians 16 NLT says this the spirit of the living God speak through Paul. A final word. I want to end it with a final word. It's just something liberating about this. It's something about this that, when you hear it in the spirit, it provides a release from the situations that produce limits on your life. Oh my God, peter, you preaching, say it again. It's something about, when you hear it in the spirit, that it provides a release from situations that produce limits in life. How many know that God will take the limits off your life. The word of God will take the limits off your life. The spirit of God will take the limits off your life.

Speaker 1:

A final word in the spirit of God, sent by the spirit of God, then accept it as true, or in other words, received by faith, will free you from watch this. The enemy trying to occupy the same space, the same space as your hope, the same space as your joy, the same space as your love. The enemy will try to occupy the same space that God is working in. You know that space where God is setting you free, that same space where God is bringing forgiveness over your life, that same space where God is giving you the strength to stand up and stand out and speak out. The enemy will always try to occupy that same space that God is working in. That's why the apostle Paul told us in Ephesians 6.10, a final word. Somebody put a final word on your life today.

Speaker 1:

A final word Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God's armor so that you will be able to watch this, stand firm against the strategies of the devil. You have to watch it because the same door that you open up for God to come in and do some work, the devil going to try to come through that same door. That's why Paul said be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. So when the devil tried to come through that same door, it'll give you the strength to close the door on him. Somebody needs to close the door on false hope. Somebody needs to close the door on fake love. Somebody needs to close the door on depression. Somebody needs to close the door on confusion. Close the door on it. Don't let what the devil has come through the same door. Occupy the same space where God is working on you.

Speaker 1:

The spirit of the living God and what the enemy and the devil provides don't miss this can't occupy the same space, peter you preaching I know I am Say it again the spirit of the living God and the spirit of the enemy can't occupy the same place when Jesus is in it, when Jesus is the source of it. There is no room Watch this for influence that will kill your joy. There is no room for influence that will hold you back from making the best decisions for your life. When Jesus is the source of your life. There is no room for limits, because God's grace takes up a lot of space. God's mercy takes up a lot of space. God's love takes up a lot of space. God's power takes up a lot of space. It takes up a lot of space in a person's life.

Speaker 1:

Cannot get a witness from anybody who has given their life to Christ was limited in life, and now God has taken all the limits of your life and gave you victory over drugs, victory over adultery, victory over fornication, victory over drunken, victory over fornication, victory over drunkenness, victory over watch this not even believing that God exists. I pray that this word has took up space in your life today and brought deliverance to some areas of your life that have been under captivity of the enemy, and I pray that God has replaced some hate with love. I pray that God has replaced some depression watch this with clarity. I pray that God has took some confusion out of your life and replaced it with a goal that you will set for life and accomplish it. I pray that you are developing a discipline to finish what you start and I pray that you put a final word on your life today that you will not let the enemy oppress you, that you will not fall victim to depression, that you will not fall victim to confusion.

Speaker 1:

Put a final word on your life today that you are a champion. Put a final word on your life today that you are the anchor of your family that will rise up and set a whole generation free from influence that's destroying their future. Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory, with exceeding joy. To the only wise God, our savior, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. And the SATC podcast family says amen. God bless you. I pray the word has been a blessing and remember, keep it solid.

Speaker 2:

You are the one that I need so much. I trust your love all of the time. Child of God, that's who I am. His blood inside of me, only one I'll ever need. I fail you every day, but you keep accepting me, standing right beside me. When they all rejected me, all those days of me walking that long road, was thinking I was doing it solo. For so long We'll be right back. You are the one that I need so much. I trust your love all of the time. You are the one that I need so much. I trust your love all of the time.

Speaker 2:

Holy Ghost, he got my back, cause when I'm feeling lost, he gon' recite them scriptures back my homie that's my best friend. Got me to the very end, never left my side, even times when I embarrass him. God, I got my heart, cause that is how I flow. My God is amazing. I know that for sure. He gave me a new heart. The one I had was broke and no, I don't deserve it. He had to save my soul. Hey, mr Devil, I know why you hatin' now. He gave me everything you wanted. That jealousy in your heart got you punished. All glory to the highest in the morning. I'm never lonely. You are the one that I need so much. I trust your love all of the time. You are the one that I need so much. I trust your love all of the time, all of the time.
